PROJECT BACKGROUND:
The project involves replacement of an existing 4-lane low water crossing with a new 4-lane all-weather bridge, approximately 650 feet long, over the Whitewater River on Cathedral Canyon Drive.
On March 27 Council awarded a contract for the grant-funded Date Palm sidewalk project and voted to name the new bridge on Cathedral Canyon as the Ofelia Bringas Memorial Bridge in recognition of her work for the youth of our community over many years.
BENEFITS:
During heavy rains, this low water crossing becomes impassable and is closed to through traffic, severing one of only two North/South connections between Cathedral City's downtown and the many residential and commercial neighborhoods north of the Whitewater River.
Construction of the bridge will allow traffic to cross the Whitewater River while storm waters flow below
