Community Update

In the last economic development update, we learned economic development is “programs, policies, and activities that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for a community, by creating and retaining jobs, and providing a stable tax base.”

In terms of economic activity, well-being, and quality of life, Cathedral City is bustling! An exclusive Southern California private home builder, Williams Homes, is having their grand opening at their first-ever Cathedral City project this Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023. Their new home project is located within the Campanile community on Ramon Road just west of Da Vall Drive. You can preview their Spanish, Bungalow, and California-inspired new homes and enjoy great food beginning at 11:00 a.m. and running through 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Williams Homes is not the only award-winning home builder active within Cathedral City! GHA Communities, a long-time Coachella Valley luxury home builder based right here in Cathedral City is offering Village of Rio Del Sol consisting of several new collections, within Rio Del Sol. If you want to be inspired by desert living at its best coupled with cutting-edge modern architecture, visit their recently finished model homes. The Village of Rio Del Sol is located on the south side of Gerald Ford Drive west of Da Vall Drive. Model homes are now open.

Economic activity is one thing, but what about quality of life? If you have not been to our Downtown Arts and Entertainment District in a while, you are missing out! It feels like yesterday Luchador Brewery opened next to CV Rep Theater. If you have not been inside Luchador to enjoy a street taco, craft beer, or an assortment of other menu options, you need to go! Their food is excellent, affordably priced, and served in a fun environment.

Desert Thai Authentic Thai Cuisine and Brunch 101 are two other new additions to the Pickfair Promenade. Brunch 101 completely lives up to the hype. While there will always be a place in my heart for Salt Flats, if Salt Flats could be replaced, Brunch 101 is working to fill their shoes. My spouse and I enjoyed brunch this last Saturday and the food did not disappoint! We will definitely be back! While I have yet to try Desert Thai, I have heard rave reviews.

All these great restaurants within our Downtown Arts and Entertainment District mean one thing: now is the perfect time to pair fabulous culinary experiences with the arts. Whether it be CV Rep’s dramatic arts, Mary Pickford Movie Theatre’s cinematic arts, or Cathedral City Community Amphitheater’s performing arts, there are so many options for great afternoons and evenings out on the town.

To stay on top of Economic Development activities and information, please bookmark www.ccedd.org. You can improve our streets and enhance revenue for City services by keeping as much of your daily shopping dollars within Cathedral City city limits. A simple Google or Yelp search will identify businesses within Cathedral City that need your support. Did you know helping our local businesses thrive by shopping local is the best way to attract new businesses?  Attracting new investment is also accomplished by keeping our properties clean, weed, and debris-free. Property appearance is an important selling point when prospective investors are looking for the perfect location. Everyone is a part of Cathedral City’s long-term success, and your efforts are helping elevate Cathedral City to new levels.

The Economic Development Department wishes you and your family great health, happiness, and success in the new year. Thank you for making Cathedral City the great community it is.
