With Riverside County's recent change to the Orange Tier, our economy is already showing signs of recovery! Our economic success will only occur if we each do our part by keeping the coronavirus infection rates down; shopping local within Cathedral City; and and getting vaccinated so that we can reach herd immunity responsibly.

Cathedral City Small Business Assistance Program
In late 2020, the Federal Housing and Urban Development agency awarded Cathedral City an additional allocation of Community Development Block Grant (“CDBG”) funds. Recognizing the difficult situation Cathedral City businesses are facing due to COVID-19, the City Council voted to create an economic assistance program (“Program”) for Cathedral City businesses. Currently, there is approximately $370,000 available for Cathedral City businesses.

Community Update
A lot has happened since our last economic development update in October. Infection rates dropped, businesses began to reopen, and we attempted to return to “normal." Unfortunately, too many of us dropped our guard, too quickly. Maybe we weren't wearing masks as we should have, perhaps we weren’t social distancing as prescribed, or maybe we started gathering in small groups. In any case, the COVID-19 infection rates have come roaring back. Since the steps to control the spread of COVID-19 are simple (always wear a mask, always socially distance, and avoid large gatherings), what we do over Christmas will determine how long our economy remains closed down.
Limited Stay at Home Order
“In light of an unprecedented, rapid rise in COVID-19 cases across California, Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) today announced a limited Stay at Home Order requiring generally that non-essential work, movement and gatherings stop between 10 PM and 5 AM in counties in the purple tier. The order will take effect at 10 PM Saturday, November 21 and remain in effect until 5 AM December 21. This is the same as the March Stay at Home Order, but applied only between 10 PM and 5 AM and only in purple tier counties that are seeing the highest rates of positive cases and hospitalizations.”
We Need Your Leadership
Your community needs your help. COVID-19 infections are spiking. Governor Newsom is expected to issue significantly more restrictive rules Friday, November 19. These restrictions may go so far as to include curfews.
