What’s Developing Within Economic Development

This will be a great year to live, work, and relax in Cathedral City. Our Downtown Arts and Entertainment District is building fantastic momentum. The CV Repertory Theater looks incredible inside, which you’ll be able to see during their first performance on March 13, 2019! For a limited time, you also have the ability to memorialize your personal generosity, or memory of a loved one by participating in CV Rep’s “buy a brick” program. For a small fee, you can donate to the theater and receive a message engraved into either 4” x 8” or 8” x 8” bricks which will make up the paths around the theater.

If you arrive early or stay a little late following one of CV Rep’s award-winning shows, you have a number of places to relax, grab a drink, enjoy delectable cuisine, and reconnect with friends and loved ones. Bonta’s, Trilussa’s, The Roost, AMP Sports Lounge, Pollo Doky’s, Los Arco’s, Trunk’s, La Tabilta, Justin’s, The Runway, Zobo & Meester’s, Denny’s, Apong’s Philly Steak, Salsas, Sammy’s Place, Pizzeria Bambinos, Capizzi’s, Sunshine Café, Taco Bell, Tony’s Burger’s, Daniel’s Table and India Oven are all tremendous local restaurants and bars within walking distance or a short drive from the theater.

While we are on the topic of arts and entertainment, thanks to the tremendous efforts of our Engineering Department, the downtown amphitheater is currently under construction. If everything goes as planned, the horizontal portion of the amphitheater could be completed as early as December 2019. This amphitheater is expected to hold nearly 3,000 people. Having attended many of the enjoyable and memorable City events, I can only imagine what the City will orchestrate when the new amphitheater is completed.

If movies are your thing, the Mary Pickford Movie Theater keeps getting better and better. The Pickford offers a diverse selection of movies, great snacks and drinks, and, for those environmental minded movie goers, our Mary Pickford theater is the only theater in California I know of which runs completely on solar power and battery backups. I invite you to experience their comfortable chairs, convenient parking, and welcoming staff. The Mary Pickford offers a first-class movie experience.

Saving the best for last, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians continue to diligently work on their plans for a Downtown Cathedral City casino.  It is my belief that we will soon see additional building plans for the site and it is our hope for a ground breaking to happen in 2019.

If you enjoy staying in the know, please bookmark our new Economic Development website http://www.ccedd.org/. On this website, we offer a number of resources, and information on all that is great and happening in our City.

In future communications, we will keep you abreast of new real estate developments, resources, and other opportunities that will improve the City’s quality of life, property values, and economic activity.   All Cathedral City residents can help accelerate our economic development by making a commitment to “buy local” whenever possible and encouraging out-of-town guests to stay in one of our several hotels.  It makes economic “cents” for you to keep your tax dollars within the City and help fund local community services and programs.  Furthermore, there is no better testimonial for attracting future new businesses than to make sure that our existing businesses are prosperous examples for other potentially interested enterprises to follow.

Also, we need your commitment to properly maintain your residential and commercial properties. Routine maintenance shows others the respect and appreciation we value for ourselves, our neighbors, and our community.  Property appearance is an important “selling point” when prospective homebuyers, businesses owners, and developers tour our City looking for the “perfect” location.

Please share with your friends and contacts the City’s dedicated websites, www.DiscoverCathedralCity.com and www.ccedd.org, which highlights many of our community attributes.  As a team, we all play a part in the long-term success of the place in which we love to live, work, play and stay!
